Kumar Mallimaratchi MIH A graduate in Hotel Management from International School of Tourism in Italy, affiliate life member of the Cornell Hotel Society (USA) and a member of Institute of Hospitality (United Kingdom). Former Chairman of Ceylon Hotels Corporation, President of Tourist Hotels Association of Sri Lanka, President of Federation of Chambers of Commerce & Industry Sri Lanka (FCCISL) and Advisor to the Construction Guarantee Fund. He served as the High Commissioner of Sri Lanka to, Republic of South Africa, Kingdom of Eswatini, Kingdom of Lesotho, Republic of Malawi, Republic of Mozambique, Republic of Namibia, Republic of Zambia and Ambassador to the Republic of Angola and Republic of Zimbabwe from 2018 to 2020.
After obtaining a Diploma in Hotel Management & Catering he joined Royal Lancaster Hotel in London as a management trainee in 1979. He has also successfully followed an Advanced Management Programme at Cornell University in USA in 1992.
He was appointed as General Manager of Ceylon Hotels Corporation in 1988 and it’s Chairman in 1990. He was also appointed as Chairman of United Hotels, Associated Hotels Co. and Director of Hotel Ceylon Intercontinental, Airline Services limited, the General Sales Agent for British Airways in Sri Lanka. He has held numerous honorary positions such as Vice Chairman Tourist Hotels Association (THASL) from 1992 to 1996, Vice President of THASL from 1998 to 2001 before becoming the President of THASL in 2001 to 2003. He was appointed as an honorary life member of THASL in November 2007 for his contribution to the tourism industry.
He served as a member of Statutory Accounting Standards Committee of Sri Lanka from 2005 to 2013. He served as a Trustee of Construction Guarantee Fund from 2011 and in 2015 was appointed as a Advisor Investments and Business Promotion.
As Head of Federation he was instrumental in working closely with Indian High Commission in Colombo to provide financial assistance to revive lost businesses in the North & East regions. He led several initiatives to assist the SME sectors & work closely with Ministry of Industry & Commerce to promote business in the SAARC region & China. He has led several business delegations to China, Japan & SAARC countries as President of FCCISL.
